MSM Research Team to Tackle Disparities in Cancer Prevention Treatment with $25M Grant

Global team led by MSM鈥檚 Dr. Melissa Davis among the winners of international Cancer Grand Challenges competition.

A research team led by Atlanta鈥檚 historically Black 麻豆国产AV School of Medicine is set to lead a revolutionary project to study cancer disparities among people of African descent.

It鈥檚 called : Societal, ancestry, molecular and biological analyses of inequalities.

The team is funded by a $25 million grant from Cancer Grand Challenges, the first of its kind awarded to a historically Black college and medical school, and to be led by a Black woman, researcher Dr. Melissa Davis.

The group will be made up of researchers from the U.S., Ghana, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Dr. Davis recently sat down with WABE鈥檚 鈥淢orning Edition鈥 to discuss how this project will hyperfocus on inequities in cancer research, particularly studying breast cancer in Black women and survival rates.
